Ellen+Ryan: Engaged! | Montreal Engagement Photography

We love winter engagement shoots. We don’t do them that often because few couples are willing to brave the cold but the end result is always something different than the norm – and if you know about us, we love doing things different! Ellen and Ryan, who are native Vermonters, drove up to Montreal for the day for their session. We thought, what better place as a backdrop than the iconic Mont Royal park? Despite the way below normal freezing temperatures Ellen and Ryan braved it and looked great at the same time! We’re looking forward to shooting their wedding this summer in much balmier temperatures. Check out some of our favourite images from their session:

2011 Retrospective: Our Year in Review

So this is how it’s been going towards the end of every December for the past few years or so – we spend the last week in a frenzy, finishing up some work, shopping for gifts and preparing for Christmas. Then we split Christmas between Montreal and Ottawa where we spend a few days hanging out with Tim’s family. We then come back in time to celebrate my mom’s birthday, and then party-hop to see all the friends who have some back into town for the holidays. And as New Year’s quickly approaches on the horizon I start thinking back over the year (as many of you probably do as well) and – for reals now – thank God for the pretty fantastic couples we’ve met, hung out with and photographed. And naturally, I start thinking about the retrospective slideshow I am eventually going to put together and the images that have stuck in my and Tim’s minds. Then before you know it, we’re food shopping for a New Year’s Eve shindig (or preparing to attend one), recovering the very next day and then somehow, I drag myself over to the computer and start opening folders to pick out images for this post. It carries on to the next day, January 2nd, which is where we are now; having finally put this retrospective together of images that have stuck in our minds in 2011.

Oh, there’s plenty more, believe me. Considering we probably fired off roughly 200,000 frames this year and delivered tens of thousands of finished images to our clients, I agonized over what to include. I’ve had to leave out a few award-winning and published images, but that’s ok because I wanted to include a few never-blogged images as well. So here it is – 2011 weddings and couples in review. Enjoy and Happy New Year!

Nairy+Nick: Engaged!

Tim and I often encourage our couples to choose a spot that means something to them for their engagement session. Nairy grew up riding horses and so shooting her and Nick’s engagement shoot out by her sister’s stable just ouside of town seemed like the perfect thing to do. The setting was beautiful, and the horses – beautiful and majestic creatures that they are, relieved themselves on occasion and steered Nick and Nairy around a couple of times – but were a perfect addition to the shoot. We enjoyed getting to know these two and are looking forward to photographing their wedding next year! Here are some of our favorite images from their session:

Chiara+David: Married! | A Wedding at The Windsor, Montreal

There were a lot of jokes at Chiara and David’s wedding about how they are polar opposites – David is quiet and reserved, Chiara is lively and practically sparkling in her personality. Being that Tim and I are opposites ourselves – I tend to think that two different personalities can bring out the best in one another, and [cheese alert!] complete each other. Yes, I said it! As their photographers, we were privy to seeing how Chiara and David were positively beaming at each other all day long out of sheer happiness. Together as a couple, they are funny, warm and kind-hearted; and Tim and I were glad to be a part of their day – which turned out to be emotional and lively and a whole lot of fun. Tania from Blanc Events (who is also Chiara’s cousin!) planned a stunningly beautiful event at The Windsor and Chiara’s dress was lovingly designed by her mom created by Melissa Gentile Couture. Tania+Adam: Married! | A Wedding at the Nelligan, Montreal

We are playing major catch-up here on our blog but we’re so very excited to share the images from Tania and Adam’s wedding last month. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration by any means to say that Tania and Adam are two of the sweetest and most genuine people we’ve met. Case in point – when I arrived at Tania’s house and started photographing her writing some thank you notes at her desk I soon realized she was writing one for us! Despite the fact that it was rainy and cold on that day, Tania and Adam were excited and upbeat – and the day turned out to be pretty much perfect. With Rachel and Chris of An English Rose at the helm, their wedding was beautifully put-together and there so many personal touches – little cards on each table at the reception told different anecdotes about them; Adam baked and decorated their wedding cake and put together the sweet table. Surrounded by their close family and friends who clearly adore these two and with all the love in the room, Tim and I felt so honored to be photographing it all. Here are some of favorite images:
