I turn to mush whenever I’m around newborns – they’re tiny and new to the world and absolutely precious and I love capturing their tiny little features. The very adorable baby Stella was a joy to photograph, enjoy some of my favorites from her session below!

I really think Quynh and Richard are going to be some of the coolest parents around. They’re funny, cultured and interesting, and this beautiful top that Quynh is wearing for most of the session was made by her! I photographed them at their beautiful home, where their cat Taco managed to sneak into a couple of frames. I love photographing expectant parents – the pregnant form is a thing of beauty – and I love seeing the quiet joy of the parents-to-be. Some of my faves:

Babies are sweet at any age, and especially precious at their newborn stage. (Yes I know new parents may beg to differ on occasion, but still!) I thoroughly enjoyed photographing the sleepy, chubby and unquestionably adorable miss Clara a week after she was born, and capturing the joy that was just radiating from her parents. Note: The images in this post are definitely tasteful, but it might be a bit much if you are squeamish about seeing pictures of babies just born.

Anticipation. Agony. The first tiny cries and the elation and relief of parents. I was so very privileged to be present for the birth of this sweet baby girl to good friends of mine – witnessing the waiting, the love and care of husband and father, and gentle support of of a doula. Sesch from MotherWit Doula Care was there to provide incredible support for a natural delivery.

I got the call at 5 in the morning that Saturday – and my friends joked that I’d be done photographing the birth in time to be back home by 10 so that I could be on time to give an already scheduled photography seminar with Tim later that afternoon. Third-time parents seem to possess that keen sense of impending arrival – I got to the hospital at 6 am and by 9:30 an incredibly cute and chubby baby entered the world and met her overjoyed parents. Even though I was very much present for the birth of my own little bundle of joy, I found myself getting incredibly emotional behind the lens, snapping away as my friends cried and held their sweet little girl for the first time. Sesch smiled at me and said, “It’s pretty incredible isn’t it?”.

Indeed it is.

Photographing babies can be somewhat of a little adventure – you’re definitely at the mercy of their schedule and their moods. There’s been nothing routine about family or baby shoots I’ve done. And also? At almost every one, I’ve found myself at some point on my hands and knees with my face pressed up against the floor to get that one perfect shot. I guess that’s why I love photographing family sessions with babies – there’s authenticity in the unpredictable. Plus, babies are just so darn cute!

I photographed adorable little miss Amaya a few weeks back – couldn’t you just melt at the sight of those round eyes and impossibly long lashes? I did a maternity session with Vanessa and Chris back in the summer and was thrilled to be back and capturing this phase of their little family life. Life with baby is one of my favorite sessions to do – portraits of baby are fun to photograph but its that little slice of the everyday routine and the unwavering love parents have for their kids that inspires me the most.
