Wow. I really didn’t think that rolling that clock forward an hour could have wreaked such havoc on my schedule but apparently it has, as evidenced by the lack of posts this week even though we’ve got a few shoots tucked away and ready to blog! I read in the paper on Sunday that it takes a week to recover from the time change so I feel completely justified in my tardiness. More posts coming tomorrow – stay tuned!

And now for some cool news – the Tim Chin store is now open! We’ll be posting all the images for our new clients this year at our online store. If you want to get someone you love the gift of awesome images and a fun time of shooting, posing and going all Vogue with Tim and I, sail on over to www.timchinclients.com for gift certificates!

And lastly but very importantly – our 2009 wedding calendar is quickly filling up! Our summer season is completely full and the fall is starting to reach capacity. To give all our wedding and portrait clients our utmost attention and care, we cap the number of weddings we shoot per season. We will be accepting 3 more wedding commissions for 2009, so don’t wait too long to get in touch!

I know Las Vegas is synonymous with gambling, drinking, burlesque and other unsavory activities but I swear, we’re here for a convention! (Did you hear the earnestness in my pleading tone?) Yes indeed, following a trip to San Diego to visit friends we are now in Sin City, getting an education and getting inspired. We’re members of WPPI (Wedding and Portrait Photographers International) who are holding their annual shindig here at the MGM Grand right on the Las Vegas Strip. In addition to what seems will be an absolutely insane tradeshow (read: heaven for gearheads) there are tons of classes and seminars that Tim and are and will be drinking up. We’re in the middle of one right now and we’ve got a secret project happening this weekend so come back after the weekend for images we’ll be posting!

In the meantime, here’s one of the images Tim took during his seminar yesterday with Joe Buissink, considered to be one of the best in the wedding industry, and because of that, one of the go-to photographers for Hollywood royalty. More to come!

Having learnt our lesson from last year about putting things off to the last minute with regards to all things wedding-show related, we went into the show this year with a kickin’ display and a little more experience. For example, we knew that a trolley is hot commodity when trying to pack up and leave at the close of the show so you have to be on one like white on rice.

All jesting aside, we thoroughly enjoyed the experience and all the really nice people we got to meet. You’d think staying put in one spot for 8 hours would be killer, but time passed so quickly as visitor after visitor stopped by ogle our awesome albums (yes, no shortage of modesty here!). Wedding shows have their own particular brand of crazy – sounds of uptempo pop mixed with string quartets and pulsing club music, clipboards being put into your hands to enter a contest every corner you turn and brochures and fliers coming every which way. I’m very thankful that we somehow stood out above the fray. So I’d like to give a shout-out to all of you who have landed on this blog and our website after visiting us at the wedding show: howdy and welcome!

Congratulations to Karim and Elizabeth, two of our awesome clients from this past summer whose wedding images were featured in the Spring/Summer 2009 issue of Weddingbells Magazine (Montreal/Ottawa/Atlantic edition). We’re happy for them and I have to say, there is something surreal and trippy about walking into a store, picking up a magazine and seeing our name and images in print.

We’re going to be spending the next two days at our booth at the Grand Salon Marions Nous – so tell everyone you know to come by and see us (that would be right across from the parked stretch SUV) . Pictures to come!

Well, it seems that everyone is publishing their “best of” lists for 2008 as the year winds down to an end, so I thought I’d jump on the train to Yesterdayville. But for good reason – this past year was incredible for Tim and I. Tim’s been shooting for few years now, I jumped onboard as we shot more weddings together and launched our studio. Each year we look back and marvel at what we’ve learned, what we’ve experienced and how we’ve grown a little wiser in our ways. 2008 was certainly no exception to that – we were privileged to be involved in the lives of some really great people, even if only for a day.

Because at the end of it all, as much as Tim and I love the challenge of shooting in unfamiliar places, soaking up new experiences and pushing ourselves to try different things – the heart of what we do is about the people we photograph. We are entrusted with making images that capture and encapsulate the emotions of a decisive moment. And in turn our clients have shared their lives with us, allowing us to document the most intimate and significant moments.

We are thankful to all our brides and grooms this past year, for trusting us and allowing us to harness our creative energies in photographing them. They made us laugh, (made me cry, at times!) and dared to go along for the ride with some of our crazier ideas, believing that it was going to make an incredible image. They opened their homes and family lives to us, allowing us to hang back as a quiet observer, capturing it all.

So thanks for an amazing year, guys. We are better photographers and our lives have been blessed because we know you.
