Chiara+David: Married! | A Wedding at The Windsor, Montreal

There were a lot of jokes at Chiara and David’s wedding about how they are polar opposites – David is quiet and reserved, Chiara is lively and practically sparkling in her personality. Being that Tim and I are opposites ourselves – I tend to think that two different personalities can bring out the best in one another, and [cheese alert!] complete each other. Yes, I said it! As their photographers, we were privy to seeing how Chiara and David were positively beaming at each other all day long out of sheer happiness. Together as a couple, they are funny, warm and kind-hearted; and Tim and I were glad to be a part of their day – which turned out to be emotional and lively and a whole lot of fun. Tania from Blanc Events (who is also Chiara’s cousin!) planned a stunningly beautiful event at The Windsor and Chiara’s dress was lovingly designed by her mom created by Melissa Gentile Couture. Kaden is One Year Old

We have this established routine in the morning. Kaden will wake up around 6 am or so. Tim or I will go and pick him up from his crib and bring him into our room – rubbing his little fists into his sleepy eyes, long and lean in a colorful sleeper, hair rumpled up at the back – and we’ll all cuddle together in bed and go back to sleep for another hour. Or sometimes two. It’s amazing how much these simple little things can bring such joy into your life.

One year old. One year of sharing our life and home with Kaden. One year of gazing into a little face that reflects a bit of my own, but mostly Tim’s (as most people see it). We hang onto his every sigh and giggle. We listen with delight when he babbles and calls out for us. I was shocked, shocked when Kaden sat up on his own because in my mind he had entered a different stage of babyhood. We cheered him on when he started crawling, when he pulled himself standing and now as he takes wobbly steps as he holds onto our hands. We admonish him when we pulls down everything off the shelves but we’re also kind of amused. And I couldn’t believe how crushed I was when he refused to eat a meal I had laboured over the stove for.

I often tell people that the thing that surprised me most about parenthood is this: before Kaden was born, Tim and I knew with unshakeable certainty that we were going to love our baby. A lot. But it has astonished us both just how much we love him – that we never could have imagined the capacity our hearts have for this incredible amount of love. We thank God everyday for Kaden – whether it’s been a trying and tough day or one that’s been just wonderful. This is why we celebrate this milestone – one year of surviving parenthood, one year of this incredible little life that we’ve shared ours with.

We know we’ve been scarce with sharing pictures of Kaden – not intentional at all – so here’s a whole lot to make up for it! Watch his hair grow longer and then get cut and then grow out again.

Just Because: Practice Makes Perfect

We called in a favor from our friends Jason and Barbara last month – we needed a couple of good looking folks to shoot for fun. Its not to say that we don’t have fun with our photoshoots with our couples and clients! Its just a different vibe when you shoot for yourself. You can take all the time in the world to tweak and play with lighting and posing, and working out new stuff you might want to try out. So we took them to a parking garage deep in the suburban hinterland (OK fine, it was Dix-Trente in Brossard) for what I guess you can call our own personal workshop – and get ourselves revved up for the season ahead! April + Mike’s Engagement Party: The Photobooth

So we set up a remote-operated photobooth at April and Mike’s engagement party this past weekend. And wouldn’t you know it – the combination of a camera on a tripod with Hawaiian shirts, dollar store leis, a genuinely imported coconut bra and grass skirt, a lobster puppet way past its prime, some much abused fruit and a photo-bombing baby (namely, ours) made for some great photographic hijinks. …quite possibly our son.

We’re taking a small blogging break from wedding photography and couples to give you all a small visual update. 12 weeks ago a tiny little boy joined us and well, we’ve fallen head over heels in love. Watching him grow chubbier and outgrowing his clothes faster than we can rotate through them has been incredible. Tim and I have been reduced to absolute emotional and sentimental mushballs when it comes to Kaden – every gesture and coo has either of us running for our iPhone or camera – whichever is closer. Seriously, it was like Christmas morning over here when Kaden gave us his first big gummy smile.

Throughout the pregnancy, family, friends, clients and wedding guests all predicted that our baby was going to be photographed a lot. No kidding. I wonder if our big shiny lenses are as familiar a sight to Kaden as our my and Tim’s faces. We’re quite happy to share a very small set of some our favorite images from the past couple of months:
