We love shooting engagement sessions in our couple’s own homes. Not to knock streetscapes and greenery, but being at home allows for a more relaxed session, an ease and level of comfort that can’t be replicated out in public. We love seeing a more personal glimpse of our couple’s lives – where they make dinner and long-term plans, where they kick up their feet to unwind. C and T have a beautifully decorated home – with artwork and touches of family side by side. They won’t be here forever (as is the situation with most of our engaged couples who will eventually trade in urban living for something bigger later on) so it was extra meaningful to photograph them at here. I always love a winter wedding in a picturesque region of this great country, and the fact that it was a good friend tying the knot made it even better. Er-Xin and Steve got married in Ball’s Falls, situated right in the Niagara wine region in an intimate ceremony, surrounded by close friends and family packed into a small church. As I had my hands full wrangling our two young children, Tim covered their big day solo, capturing the big defining moments along with the more intimate ones. Here are some of our favourite images:

Well, you know you are definitely having an awesome hair day when strangers stop you on the street and tell you that they love your hair. Nathalie (a self-confessed low-maintenance gal who got glammed up for our shot) and Jamie (who admitted he was nervous, but hey, you could have fooled me!) came into town from Toronto for their engagement session, catching some gorgeous light on a lightly chilly afternoon. You know, nearly all our couples tell us that they have never done a professional photoshoot before but put two people in love in front of the lens and tell them to forget we’re around…and magic. We can’t wait to photograph these two at their wedding in a couple of months!

Jessica + Gabe: Married! | Toronto Wedding Photography

As we’re slowly emerging from the sleepless haze following the birth of our second little guy, we’re finally putting up weddings from the end of last year. Jessica and Gabe – easily one of our funnest couples of the year, got married on a cold rainy day in Toronto late last fall. There’s never really a dull moment when you’re around these two, as Jess is apt to burst into song when the occasion calls for it and two of them together can be pretty goofy. So it only stood to reason that their wedding was a whole lot of fun. Their ceremony was held at Scarborough Community Alliance Church amongst their church family and following that, with everyone in great spirits in spite of the rain, we all hopped onto a party bus to the grounds of University of Toronto for their portrait session. The revelry continued on at their reception held at Arcadian Court downtown where we got to witness a dance-off, a Gangnam-style flash mob and lots and lots of laughter and dancing. So many photos to post, so little time…we’re going to take a little jaunt back a few months and share some of our favorite images from Tim’s shoot with Esther and Matt. We often photograph engagements in places that have meaning for our brides and grooms-to-be, so it only seemed fitting to photograph them on the campus of MacMaster University in Hamilton – in the very classroom where they first laid eyes on each other. Academia and romance do make a good mix!
