Ellen+Ryan: Engaged! | Montreal Engagement Photography

We love winter engagement shoots. We don’t do them that often because few couples are willing to brave the cold but the end result is always something different than the norm – and if you know about us, we love doing things different! Ellen and Ryan, who are native Vermonters, drove up to Montreal for the day for their session. We thought, what better place as a backdrop than the iconic Mont Royal park? Despite the way below normal freezing temperatures Ellen and Ryan braved it and looked great at the same time! We’re looking forward to shooting their wedding this summer in much balmier temperatures. Check out some of our favourite images from their session:

Holly+Ben : Married! | Toronto Wedding Photography

I’ve known Ben for a a good ten years now. He’s always been the kind of guy you could lean on, ask for a helping hand or rely on to give you an ear to listen to your problems. Over the past few years as I moved to Montreal, and Ben stayed in Toronto we’ve lost touch a bit, not keeping up as much as you would have liked – but when we see each other it’s like no time has passed and we pick up right where we left off. Except for when Ben called me this past spring. It was a little bit out of the blue, so I knew something was up. “Tim, I’m getting married”. My heart really did skip a beat, I’ve seen Ben go through good times and bad times, and he’s definitely the kind of guy that deserves more of the the good. I couldn’t have been happier. Or so I thought….

Then we met Holly. She has a fun and incredible spirit, and a gigantic heart; She is one of those types of people you can describe as ‘Golden’; Ben is a lucky guy to have caught her. We had a quick consult when we were down in Toronto this past June, and immediately knew that not only were these two human beings such good people, they were truly meant for each other. They make each other better – which is a tough task, because they are already first rate all on their own. Happiness for your friends: to a new level.

We had the immense privilege to photograph their wedding this past November, and their connection and love for God, each other, their friends, and their family was palpable. Congratulations you two, you deserve all life has to offer.

2011 Retrospective: Our Year in Review

So this is how it’s been going towards the end of every December for the past few years or so – we spend the last week in a frenzy, finishing up some work, shopping for gifts and preparing for Christmas. Then we split Christmas between Montreal and Ottawa where we spend a few days hanging out with Tim’s family. We then come back in time to celebrate my mom’s birthday, and then party-hop to see all the friends who have some back into town for the holidays. And as New Year’s quickly approaches on the horizon I start thinking back over the year (as many of you probably do as well) and – for reals now – thank God for the pretty fantastic couples we’ve met, hung out with and photographed. And naturally, I start thinking about the retrospective slideshow I am eventually going to put together and the images that have stuck in my and Tim’s minds. Then before you know it, we’re food shopping for a New Year’s Eve shindig (or preparing to attend one), recovering the very next day and then somehow, I drag myself over to the computer and start opening folders to pick out images for this post. It carries on to the next day, January 2nd, which is where we are now; having finally put this retrospective together of images that have stuck in our minds in 2011.

Oh, there’s plenty more, believe me. Considering we probably fired off roughly 200,000 frames this year and delivered tens of thousands of finished images to our clients, I agonized over what to include. I’ve had to leave out a few award-winning and published images, but that’s ok because I wanted to include a few never-blogged images as well. So here it is – 2011 weddings and couples in review. HANEEN+GALEN | TORONTO ENGAGEMENT PHOTOGRAPHY

We’re playing a little bit of catch up here at the studio, with the holidays catching up it’s been tough keeping grips on the blog. That’s not to say that we have a shortage of wonderful couples that we want to share with all of you!

Angela and I were in Toronto in the middle of November on a cold but mild day and got to spend an afternoon with Haneen and Galen who let us into their wonderfully decorated and cozy home, introduced us to their wonderfully cozy dog Charlie and talked about many things – including Galen’s love for baseball. It was a relaxed shoot, and Haneen and Galen made our jobs easy by simply being themselves. We’re looking forward to photographing what we know will be a fabulous wedding this coming May.

ALI+VINNIE | MONTREAL ENGAGEMENT PHOTOGRAPHY

We are incredibly lucky to be able to do what we do. We’re given opportunities to get windows into the lives of people who are totally in love – like Ali and Vinnie. Anyone spending just a few minutes with them can see how enamoured they are of each other and how much fun they have together. Angela and I took Ali and Vinnie out for their engagement session and spent a cold autumn day with their scooter (aptly also named ‘Vinny’), the backdrop of Old Montreal and two souls who just couldn’t stop smiling at each other.
