Jasmine + Kien: Married in Playa Ensenachos | Cuba Wedding Photography

When Jasmine and Kien started planning their big day, they knew they wanted to celebrate their wedding far different from their hometown of Montreal, and also spend some quality time in paradise with their closest family and friends. Playa Ensenachos – a stone’s throw from Caya Santa Maria certainly fit the bill, tucked away on the northern shores of Cuba. Pristine white sand beaches, hot weather and a beautiful resort on its own nature preserve, their wedding was an unforgettable week for them all from the minute the group of more than 50 boarded the plane together. Though having a destination wedding can mean relinquishing control on a lot of details, Jasmine and Kien’s nuptials was full of personal details – from the arch that was made especially by their friends to the hand printed hankerchiefs that every guest received. A late-night gathering to continue the festivities after the reception on a darkened beach with only the full moon and stars for light capped off an eventful day:

Jasmine + Kien: Casual Shoot in Havana | Cuba Wedding Photography

We travelled to Cuba last month to photograph Jasmine and Kien’s wedding, and a few days before, we left the resort we were all staying in for a day trip to Havana for a casual photoshoot. It was our first trip to Cuba and we were glad that we saw a little more than just sand and surf – which in themselves were beautiful of course – but Havana. Rich in culture and history, parts of it seemingly frozen in a 1950′s timewarp and Spanish-influences architectural details abounding – we were excited to photograph our happy couple in the midst of it all. The atmosphere was vibrant, the people were friendly, the vintage cars were ogle-worthy and our couple was soaking it all in – what more could you ask for? We’ll have another post up soon with images from the wedding, and in the meantime here are some of our favorites from Jasmine and Kien’s casual shoot:

We love shooting engagement sessions in our couple’s own homes. Not to knock streetscapes and greenery, but being at home allows for a more relaxed session, an ease and level of comfort that can’t be replicated out in public. We love seeing a more personal glimpse of our couple’s lives – where they make dinner and long-term plans, where they kick up their feet to unwind. C and T have a beautifully decorated home – with artwork and touches of family side by side. They won’t be here forever (as is the situation with most of our engaged couples who will eventually trade in urban living for something bigger later on) so it was extra meaningful to photograph them at here. I always love a winter wedding in a picturesque region of this great country, and the fact that it was a good friend tying the knot made it even better. Er-Xin and Steve got married in Ball’s Falls, situated right in the Niagara wine region in an intimate ceremony, surrounded by close friends and family packed into a small church. As I had my hands full wrangling our two young children, Tim covered their big day solo, capturing the big defining moments along with the more intimate ones. Here are some of our favourite images:

Well, you know you are definitely having an awesome hair day when strangers stop you on the street and tell you that they love your hair. Nathalie (a self-confessed low-maintenance gal who got glammed up for our shot) and Jamie (who admitted he was nervous, but hey, you could have fooled me!) came into town from Toronto for their engagement session, catching some gorgeous light on a lightly chilly afternoon. You know, nearly all our couples tell us that they have never done a professional photoshoot before but put two people in love in front of the lens and tell them to forget we’re around…and magic. We can’t wait to photograph these two at their wedding in a couple of months!
