Yves + Elise: Engaged!

We had the pleasure of shooting Yves and Elise’s engagement pictures last week. A little nervous only at the very beginning of our shoot, it quickly melted away as they simply enjoyed a summer’s golden evening walking by the Lac des Castors on Mont-Royal. It was a weeknight so the park was nearly empty – it was almost like we had all the space to ourselves. It’s amazing when our couples can really just forget the cameras and be themselves – allowing us to capture love’s quiet beauty and honesty. Elise and Yves were just so sweet and enthusiastic about the shoot that we were able to connect with them quickly. Here are some of our favorite images:

Carmen + Elijah: Engaged!

We’re excited to be shooting the wedding of our friends Carmen and Elijah in a couple of months. They’ve encouraged us and rallied us on from the beginning as we were getting our photography studio off the ground and so we’re thrilled that we can now be their trusted photographers! Equally as thrilling – Carmen busting out her cello for a photoshoot out in the street, the two of them duet-ing at his home with Elijah on the piano, and then all of us trekking up the Jacques Cartier bridge to catch some sun, views of the city and cool shots. When we meet our couples for their consultations, we always take some time to chat them up and see what they’re all about. We’re interested in knowing them as people and gaging what aspect of photography is important to them. So when we met Sandra and Kevin last year and they told us they wanted something different for their photography, we tucked that away in the corner of minds. Its always awesome to work with couples who are really invested it making great images because they’ll go the extra mile. And boy, did they ever!

See, a few months ago I got this zany idea of doing a shoot right under the Turcot Interchange. Its been panned in Montreal as a real mess of a highway in terms of its layout and from an urban planning standpoint. There are those who will call it downright ugly but Tim’s always found it strangely beautiful. There is something fascinating in the criss-crossing concrete, especially since it won’t be around much longer – supposedly there are plans to tear it down. So Tim and I just knew we had to do a shoot there and we knew Kevin and Sandra were the ones for it!

Now Kevin and Sandra deserve kudos not just because they were up for something unconventional but because they agreed to our crazy proposal of starting the shoot at the crack of dawn. That meant a 5 am start! We caught some dramatic sky, soft light and had the streets all to ourselves. After the we left the Turcot interchange, we headed downtown, where it was eerily empty, to capture images that we wouldn’t able to do in the middle of the day. Kevin and Sandra, you guys rock for agreeing to our crazy ideas! Here’s our favorites from the shoot:

Shane + Goretti: Engaged!

If you drive in and around Montreal quite a bit, you can count on St. Joseph’s oratory to be a ubiquitous landmark no matter which direction you’re coming from. You can even see the giantic green domed top of the oratory when flying in by plane, way up in the sky. But its more than just a famous Montreal historical landmark for Shane and Goretti – its where they got engaged. As we all stood at the elevated lookout close to sunset last week, as we shot their engagament session, there was a stillness in the air as the city rushed by down below. With its multitude of winding stairs, detailed structure and expansive view, it made for a beautiful visual and emotional backdrop to Shane and Goretti’s session. We can see why its their favorite spot in Montreal. Here’s some of our favorite images from their shoot:

Andre + Diana: Engaged!

We’d never been to the Centre de Nature in Laval before until we met up with Andre and Diana for their engagement photoshoot. And generally Tim and I prefer the urban scenery to parks but the Montreal area has so many great green spaces, a lot of them huge and their own unique look. This particular park had a lot of spaces that seemed straight out of a fairytale – sunlight streaming through the leaves, clusters of flowers on the ground amidst dense shrubbery, and light flecks of fluff floating through the air. It was throroughly romantic until one remembered that the fluff was dandelion seeds and I actually swallowed a few. Anyway. Andre and Diana were a lot of fun. Andre is one to speak his mind but he had us cracking up everything with his wry observations. Diana was thoroughly amused and always laughing or rolling her eyes in mock exasperation. It was wonderfully endearing and we are looking forward to shooting their wedding next month! Here’s a few favorites from their shoot:
