Sheila + Mikhail: Engaged!

I’ve known Sheila since she was barely in high school. Apparently she used to be afraid of me (something about me being intimidating? I don’t believe it!) but it all passed when I adopted her as my “little sister” early on. Throughout the years our chats graduated from venting about parents and boys to talking through tough decisions about university and challenging discussions about spiritual things and our beliefs as Christians. I clearly remember the day she told me over lunch that she was dating the guy that she knew she was going to marry, the hope in her voice and the excitement written all over her face. This, after several months of dating! I’ve always known Sheila to have her head on straight though, so I had a good feeling that things were going to unfold and they did. Sheila and Mikhail are getting married this summer, and I am so glad that Tim and I are going to be a part of their day. Mikhail is a big photography enthusiast, so we know that they fully appreciate what we do and that makes us all the more excited to capture their day through image. For their engagement session, we hung out at the McGill University campus downtown, enjoying a few moments of sunshine before it turned somewhat grey. We ended our session in the McLennan library building where “stacktion” was explained to me, (“You’re getting old, Ange!” said Sheila) although none took place whatsoever, despite what the images may have you believe. We just met this lovely, vivacious couple for the first time this past week as we got ready to shoot their engagement session. I had asked them how they would describe themselves as a couple and I guess that’s not something people get asked a lot, so they said they weren’t sure. As soon as we started the shoot though, the words lively and fun popped in my mind as they laughed and smiled easily and did an impromptu dance on the sidewalk. As they were just in Montreal for the day we took them to the Old Port in the early evening. I love that there’s no shortage of different and interesting spaces to shoot there and coupled with the golden light of sundown coloring the sky – magic. We’re so looking forward to shooting their wedding in Lake Placid later this summer. Here’s a few of our faves from their shoot:
