Philippe + Kar Mee: Married!

A family anxiously waiting downstairs in the living room as the bride had the finishing touches applied in a room above: this was the scene I walked into at the start of Philippe and Kar Mee’s big day. Kar Mee told me that she was excited that she couldn’t sleep all night. It was a sweet, emotional wedding without any fuss to detract from what the day was all about: two people simply committing to each other in front of their closest family and friends. With the ceremony held at the Palais de Justice and the reception held the Holiday Inn Select in Chinatown, the wedding was a beautiful blend of two cultures; paying respect to time-honored Chinese customs and getting the party revved up in true Quebecois fashion. Kevin + Sandra: Married!

We had an early start to the day, but Tim and I woke up two Saturday’s ago psyched to shoot Kevin and Sandra’s wedding. Not only was it a rare sunny day, Kevin and Sandra are two of the coolest people we’ve met who are just as invested about making creative and interesting images as we are. A couple of months ago, they actually woke up before sunrise to do their engagement photoshoot with us!

Italians are really big on community and family, so there was quite a gathering at Sandra’s home before the ceremony even prior to Kevin’s entourage (read: close family and friends) arrived to toast her family. In addition to Sandra looking absolutely gorgeous and Kevin looking quite dapper, I loved the touches and details – the pink Kate Spade shoes, the feathery hairpiece, the uber-vibrant flowers. It wasn’t just the details that made the day though – it was the huge smiles all around. Their families were positively beaming throughout the day and seeing Kevin and Sandra break into a smile whenever they were together was inspiring for us as we were shooting. The ceremony took place at the Sacre-Coeur chapel, and the reception took place at Le Madison, with the awesome lighting and overall decor done by Gala Design with entertainment and music by Showtime Entertainment who got the crowd going throughout the night. The gorgeous bouquets, floral arrangements and table centerpieces were done by Sens Fleuriste.

Valerie + Marc-Andre: Married!

Valerie and Marc-Andre tied the knot in Old Montreal this past weekend on a day that initially threatened rain but turned out to be gorgeous and sunny. Valerie got ready in this fantastic loft that was just walking distance from the Notre-Dame Basilica, where the ceremony was held in the intimate Chapel. And yes, Valerie, her bridesmaids and her family walked to the ceremony! There was no limo pick-up, just a short, pleasant jaunt across a few blocks and streets that were still under construction as passer-bys and tourists paused to admire and offer their hearty congratulations. That’s what is so darn cool about Valerie and Marc-Andre, small deliberate details were thought of and gave their wedding day a unique flavor. Marc-Andre and his groomsmen each donned a pair of brand new white Nike sneakers in lieu of traditional dress shoes. Valerie was the gorgeous bride with a touch of vintage, wearing a feathery headpiece and make-up that harkened to the glamour of the 30′s. A friend sang the Beatles’ “All You Need Is Love” and strummed on a guitar during the Catholic wedding ceremony . The reception, held at wonderfully rustic Auberge St-Gabriel, was full of laughter as anecdotes were told, songs were sung for the bride and groom to kiss and games got guests to leap out of their seats in excitement. Julianne + Pieter: Engaged!

We just met this lovely, vivacious couple for the first time this past week as we got ready to shoot their engagement session. I had asked them how they would describe themselves as a couple and I guess that’s not something people get asked a lot, so they said they weren’t sure. As soon as we started the shoot though, the words lively and fun popped in my mind as they laughed and smiled easily and did an impromptu dance on the sidewalk. As they were just in Montreal for the day we took them to the Old Port in the early evening. I love that there’s no shortage of different and interesting spaces to shoot there and coupled with the golden light of sundown coloring the sky – magic. We’re so looking forward to shooting their wedding in Lake Placid later this summer. Here’s a few of our faves from their shoot:

Leon + Gigi: Engaged!

You know it’s going to be an interesting shoot when the bride and groom-to-be want to start their session in an abandoned parking garage. And we weren’t one bit surprised – after all, Leon is a wedding photographer himself based out of Toronto! He and his fiance Gigi came to Montreal last weekend and Tim and I were super excited to meet them and do their shoot. We love working with every single one of our couples and its especially cool to work with someone who has been on the other side of the lens and is totally up for anything for the sake of making great imagery. Hey, could you guys perch on that railing, even though its 10 off the ground, and the ground is pretty much solid ice? Awesome! They were a riot to be around, they poked lots of fun at each other and there were lots of laughs. Although Leon insisted that it was weird for him to be the subject for once, I totally think he and Gigi were natural poseurs and they both looked smokin’ to boot.
