We didn’t meet Caroline and James before their engagement shoot last week, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. They were living on the other side of the world they first contacted us and taking up the admirable task of planning their wedding in Canada. Tim and I were pleasantly surprised to meet an attractive and easy-going couple (a great side-effect of living in Austrailia I suppose) who have a great sense of humor and are well travelled. Tim and I have been bitten by the travel bug, and, well – we’re fun folks too, so we hit it off with them. Since Caroline and James drove in from out of town for the shoot, we hit up Old Montreal (you can’t run out of great spaces to shoot there) and St-Denis south of Sherbrooke for a little variety. We just love shooting in that magic hour just before dark when the sky turns golden and transitions into a dusky orange and blue. When we first stepped out for the session though, the sky was a moody grey and it threatened of rain. I worried a bit when a few drops hit me square on top of my head – I did postpone the shoot by a day afterall on account of the weather – but soon enough, the sun came out and we got some incredible backlit portraits. Here are some of our favorites from the shoot:
Just before we left Old Montreal, we had them walk into an art store all nonchalant for this next shot:
