The weekends in Montreal so far this summer have been touch and go in terms of weather. I woke up the morning of Duy and Viviane’s wedding and hoped that it wouldn’t rain because their ceremony was going to be outdoors. Not just anywhere outdoors, but in the garden at the back of Viviane’s family home. I arrived at the house to find her and her bridesmaids happily chattering away as they were getting ready. It was absolutely endearing how excited everyone was and there was a palpable energy in the house as the family milled about decorating the garden area for the ceremony and brunch. As Duy, his groomsmen and family arrived at Viviane’s house a solemn hush came about as the Vietnamese religous ceremony started. The quietness didn’t last for long though, as everyone congregated in the garden for the civil ceremony. There is just something so honest and heartwarming about getting married in your own backyard in an intimate ceremony surrounded by close family and friends. And there was no rain during the wedding! It had rained about an hour before but cleared up in time.
We did the portrait sessions in Jarry Park with the bridal party. Tim and I can shoot pretty much anywhere although sometimes we have a preference towards a city landscape. So we were psyched when we spotted a skateboard park closeby, and wouldn’t you know, everyone in the bridal party was game for climbing onto the various ramps and slopes – dress shoes, gowns and all. The reception took place at Centre Antique in the east end of Montreal, where there were games, emotional speeches, a beautiful song and an encore sung by the grooms father, and lots of dancing! Congratulations Duy and Viviane! Some of our favorite images below:
