Theresa + Jason: Married!

One evening back in January, Tim and I received an e-mail that left us slightly stunned. It came from the mother of a bride looking for a photographer to cover the wedding of a couple who’s journey down the aisle very nearly met a tragic end. And so we found ourselves weeks later, driving in heavy snow up to Tremblant on Valentine’s day to spend a few hours shooting the wedding ceremony and portraits for Theresa and Jason. Seeing them together on that day, you never would have thought that Jason almost succumbed to serious illness mere months ago, but there he and Theresa were, excited and joyful to be married in front of close family in an intimate ceremony. It’s moments like these that – a wedding made all the more extraordinary because of the circumstances that led it up – that give Tim and I a jolting reminder of how important the stories of the people we photograph are.

Now can I give a major shout-out to Theresa who weathered the elements in her strapless wedding gown for a photoshoot outdoors? In what is arguably the coldest month of the year? Tim and I had brought out lighting kit with us in anticipation of an indoor shoot, but with Jason and Theresa being serious skiers and outdoorsy people it was clear from the get-go that outdoors was going to be more true. That and a couple of ski shops…and a chocolate store! Check out some of our favorite images below, as well as a long overdue edition of Tim vs Ange!

So here is the latest installment of Tim vs Ange: we shot the following images probably 30 seconds apart with two different approaches. I (Angela) went for available light and a mirror that happened to be standing on a counter closeby while Tim chose to shoot through glass shelving and utilized off-camera lighting.
