The nature of our job has us attending a lot of weddings. But many times, the only people we know in the room are the bride and groom, and while we love all our clients, sometimes we forget what it’s like to be a guest at a wedding of a good family friend. The best way I can describe it is that it’s like stepping into a time machine. On the other side of this time machine are friends that you grew up with, but haven’t seen in 5 or 10 or 20 years. Everyone is a little greyer, has a little less hair, or maybe – as in my case – a little bit rounder. We’ve grown up, gotten married ourselves, had kids and our parents are enjoying retirement. There’s a strange and comfortable feeling in these types of crowds, as if you’re breathing air from childhood in the company of these old friends – recognizable and strange all at the same time like a road that veers off only to intersect with itself again – a kind of nostalgic unfamiliarity.
All this aside though, it is so easy to see how Patricia and Frank simply just ‘fit’. They are both smart, responsible and generous souls eager to laugh and willing to enjoy what life has to give them. Their day was beautiful and perfect, the ceremony and reception were held at the brand spanking new digs of the Ottawa Convention Centre. And though I don’t have quite the same history with Frank, I do know enough about Patricia to know that she doesn’t make mistakes!
As an old friend myself, I must say how deeply happy I am that they’ve found each other and truly excited for what the future has in store for them.
