If I had to find a word that described Cassandra and Ciaran, it would be “inextricable”. Merriam-Webster defines the word as “impossible to separate : closely joined, incapable of being disentangled or untied” – It is like a knot that can’t be untied, two strands weaved together that they become and act as one. To me, though – it describes this underlying confidence in how they carry themselves that I notice, it is as though, there is absolutely no insecurity in their relationship and no matter.
I first met Cassandra and Ciaran in passing at the wedding of their close friends Olivia & Sebastian that Angela and I photographed back in 2012. Cassandra was a bridesmaid, Ciaran, her date. They struck me as remarkably friendly, kind and personable – but there was this brief fleeting moment on the dance floor later in the night – a kiss, then, a look – that was in a way was a window into who they were together.
Fast forward a couple years and – Cassandra and Ciaran were married amongst all their friends and family, cultures intertwined, worlds embracing. The ceremony was a mix of eastern orthodox and irish catholic laying grounds of a deeply rooted understanding of their roots and traditions and a firm understanding of the equality and support between them. There was only joy that could be read on the faces that surrounded them.
The reception was at the Nelligan hotel – a party filled with culture and friendship and fun, a true celebration.
I was fortunate to work with incredibly talented and super sweet Marie-Christine from grey sparrow, filling in for Angela while she is baking our third bun in the oven, and Villa View who handled the videography as only they can. Good friends make the work day go that much better.
Here are a few images from the wonderful day:
