Patricia+Frank : Engaged! | Toronto Engagement Photography

I’ve known Patricia literally as long as I can remember. Childhood memories include hanging out her parents place while the elders released the stresses of the week through their weekly Mah-Jongg ritual, Chinese community Christmas pageants, legendary potlucks, summer school music theory and mischief of all sorts (usually perpetrated by the little brothers). Our parents chronically vacation together. Her family has been the best kinds of friends to ours – always supportive, always present, and always giving.

These are the kinds of friends that whenever you re-connect, though there may be some time between visits, things seem to pick up where they left off. Until last August, when I received this email in my inbox: “So, I am not sure if you heard maybe from your mum. But it looks like someone would like me to be his partner in life! yep, i’m engaged!!” . Now, we are genuinely happy for all our clients when wee hear they’re engaged, and planning a wedding – but when you hear an old friend has found her “one”, there’s something a little more special to it – like happiness got all tangled up with a dose of nostalgia.

We only met Frank for the first time at our shoot in downtown Toronto. To a casual outsider it may be assumed that they’d be buttoned-down folks due to the serious nature of what they do in their professional careers in Toronto’s financial district. Clearly though, there’s an effortless and playful silliness that simply just works. It is going to be a true joy to photograph their wedding this coming August, but until then here are a few of our favourites from our session a couple weeks ago:

Édith+Simon | Montreal Engagement Photography

We’ve photographed couples in some unusual, un-pretty spaces for engagement sessions – under a major highway intersection, by the side of a greasy spoon in the middle of urban sprawl, in a hospital parking lot. The more of a challenge it may present, the more we get kind of psyched to make something out of it. So when Edith and Simon told us they wished to do their session in a depanneur (that’s a 7-11 or a convenience store for all you non-Quebecois), Tim and I looked at each other and mouthed “Yes!”

It turned out that this particular depanneur was where Edith and Simon met – and worked together for years, in their tight-knit community in St-Hubert. During the session, a number of customers who stopped in either waved hello to this sweet and friendly couple, offered congratulations or called out “See you at the wedding!” Of course we had our share of fun photographing in the depanneur as we pretty much had the run of the place. We’re looking forward to their wedding this month!
